For the first time in our history, youngsters have listened to and recorded stories from their elders for publication. This book is a compilation of personal stories from the perspective of indigenous civilians who were caught between two warring nations during the WWII Battles for Saipan and Tinian. These stories present a glimpse into the lives of our elders and the events that they lived through during the intense invasion that began on June 15, 1944.
This book features a limited number of our elders' oral histories; however, their painful memories are about events that were shared by many of our Chamorro and Carolinian elders. These stoies help us to understand the past and to appreciate the experiences and courage of those who survived and of those whose lives were taken during these tragic times. Hard cover. 206 pages. Color photos and illustrations.
